Why I Use Pinterest For My Business And Why You Should Too

In 2023, I hit 1 million monthly views on Luna & Jade’s Pinterest page, and it changed the game for my small business.

Before we get into how, let’s back up to 2019 when I launched my small, handmade jewelry design studio. I was the definition of a solo-preneuer, trying to do it ALL by myself. Trying to keep up with the website, orders, and social media was more than a full-time job.

From 2019-2021, I was floundering. I was doing just enough to slowly grow my brand while simultaneously keeping my head ever so slightly about water. I truly thought this is what it was like running a small business. You have to grind 24/7.

In 2021, I finally asked for help. I had started a Pinterest page early on in my journey but had zero strategy and consistency in posting. I was basically posting pretty pictures whenever I felt like it, wasn’t paying attention to trends or keywords, and just hoping these curated images would miraculously go viral and send thousands of excited customers to my website ready to ‘add to cart’.

Would you be shocked if I told you this “strategy” didn’t work? It didn’t! It wasn’t until early 2022 when I hired someone who really understood how Pinterest worked that things started shifting. We got strategic with when/what we posted, purchased a Tailwind subscription to auto-post throughout each day, and used Canva for graphic creation so we could re-use the professional pictures I had taken of my products.

This wasn’t an overnight viral sensation, but traffic and views did start to slowly pick up on a consistent basis. Fast forward to September of 2023 and BOOM! I started seeing an uptick in website traffic and a big increase in sales on specific product collections. From September until January 2024, my sales BLEW UP!

Since this blow up, Luna & Jade’s Pinterest views are steady and much of my website traffic is driven by this platform. If you are a small, product based business and are not utilizing the power of Pinterest to drive traffic to your e-commerce store, this is your sign to START.

Ultimately to get to this point, I had to shift my mindset from the desire to grow by going viral to focusing my energy and resources on creating evergreen content, which is search-optimized content that is continually relevant over a long period of time. I can’t tell you how good this shift has been for my business and my mental health.

FUN FACT #1: I’ve never woken up to 1000’s of new followers or overwhelming engagement from a post/reel going viral, despite being really consistent on socials since I launched in 2019. This used to be really frustrating until I switched my mindset and realized what I REALLY wanted, which was sustainable growth and relevant evergreen content that will always perform for my business.

FUN FACT #2: Pins last forever on Pinterest and high quality, relevant Pins will continue to resurface seasonally. I’m using Pinterest as a visual search engine and driving traffic and sales to my website. The consistency of Pinning daily has paid off.

FUN FACT #3: I have had HELP with Pinterest for ~3 years. I used to do it all myself until I realized I can not do everything and I really wanted Pinterest to be optimized to its full potential. Asking for help and using Tailwind to schedule out Pins has been vital to hitting this milestone.

For me, playing the long game and understanding these things take time/consistency has shifted my entire business mindset.
