3 Things I Would Do Differently If I Started a New Business Today

2019 Mandy vs. 2025 Mandy are two different people, both personally and in business, so when I was recently asked if I would do anything differently when I launched Luna & Jade, these three things immediately came to mind — so of course I wanted to share them with you all!

1️. WEBSITE: I would make sure my website was ready to roll the day I launched my business. When I launched in 2019, I was literally taking orders via DM’s and having everyone Venmo me payment *gasp* — it was an administrative nightmare. It wasn’t until 4 months later I got my website going and it truly changed the game.

2. HIRED A MENTOR: Maybe I was living in Lalaland or maybe I was just so excited to finally launch Luna & Jade, but I had ZERO clue as to what I was really doing. I would have hired an experienced mentor to talk through the beginning stages of small business ownership to help smooth the road a bit that first year.

3. BACKEND SYSTEMS: I would have set up back-end systems BEFORE I launched. These include shipping software (I used to manually write out all addresses and go to the post office to ship), Pinterest (I did set this up, but didn’t do anything with it for a solid 2 years), inventory tracking (the eyeball method does not help come holiday time when you run out of everything), and a solid website platform (my favorite for e-commerce brands is Shopify).

Launching a small business is hard enough why add unnecessary stress to the process by not being prepared for success?
